Donations to Flat Rock Brook

Flat Rock Brook was founded 35 years ago by a group of people who cared deeply about nature and the planet we inhabit. We have survived and flourished because, over the years, thousands of people have continued to lend their support as members, as donors and as volunteers. We are supported by membership dues, contributions, program fees, and income from our endowment. 71% of our donations come from individuals.

Annual Fund
Donations to Flat Rock Brook's Annual Campaign cover 30% of our expenses each year. The Annual Fund allows us
maintain our 150-acres of property, offer educational programs for more than 3,000 school children each year, using our woods as a natural classroom, provide outreach programs to area schools as well as variety of public programs for our members and the general public, and to offer competitive salaries to our professional staff.

Donors of $250 or more in a given year are enrolled in the Sylvan Society, which honors those who make leadership gifts to Flat Rock Brook. Sylvan Society donors are recognized in our Annual Report, they are invited to a cocktail party held in their honor in a member's home, and their names are displayed on a plaque to be hung in the Nature Center Building.

To make a donation online using a credit card click the Donate Button below and enter the amount of your donation. To make a donation in honor of or in memory of an individual enter "IHO" or "IMO" on the donation page in the space provided under "Purpose" along with the name of the individual you wish to honor.

To make a tax-deductible gift by mail, fill out the donation form and send it, along with your tax-deductible contribution, to Flat Rock Brook Nature Association, 443 Van Nostrand Avenue, Englewood, NJ 07631.

Your gift, large or small, will help protect and oasis of natural beauty and a precious educational resource for our area. Thank you for your support.

Protect and Preserve a Precious Heritage:
Create a Living Legacy

Our members’ financial support enables Flat Rock Brook to keep up its important work of preserving and protecting its precious green acres and educating the public about the environment, not only today but for future generations. You can help perpetuate this mission for years to come by creating a living legacy for Flat Rock Brook.

Through various planned giving tools you can help ensure Flat Rock’s future and make special, larger gifts than possible from annual income or during your lifetime, and with potential significant tax benefits. These include bequests made in a will or trust, donations of appreciated property or securities, or designation of Flat Rock Brook as beneficiary in your qualified retirement plan, life insurance policy, payable-on-death accounts, or employee stock ownership plans. Several of our members have taken advantage of a federal regulation allowing individuals who are 70½ or older to use IRA Required Minimum Distribution funds to make tax-free gifts of up to $100,000 to qualified charitable organizations. Such gifts for 2011 can be made any time before Dec. 31, 2011.

If you contemplate such giving, it is important to consult your legal and financial advisors.

Please Think Of Flat Rock Brook When You Think Of The Future!

New Ways to Support Flat Rock Brook

Earth Share of New Jersey
Flat Rock Brook has recently joined Earth Share of New Jersey (ESNJ), a coalition of two dozen of the state’s top environmental nonprofits.  Earth Share of New Jersey represents environmental organizations in workplace-giving programs across the state. Through these programs, employees can support quality environmental organizations like FRB that are making our future healthier and greener. Employees are able to donate through payroll contributions to the charities of their choice.  ESNJ has other funding mechanisms to help FRB. Donate you car to Earth Share New Jersey, and Flat Rock Brook will get a portion of the proceeds. We have set up a small recycling station through ESNJ in the Nature Center building for batteries, printer cartridges, and cell phones, which will help raise funds for FRB while helping the environment as well. Visit www.earthsharenj.org if you would like to start a workplace giving program at your business.
