Vegetation Survey and Monitoring Project

forest3

We have received two generous gifts totaling $4,000 toward our Vegetation Survey and Monitoring Project. We need your help to match that amount and raise another $4,000 to implement this important work that will protect the health of our forest.

The overgrazing of deer on the understory of our forest is causing forest degradation. We have been losing oak, hickory and other species that are characteristic of a healthy hardwood forest. With the new addition of the deer fence at Flat Rock Brook, forest regeneration and rebounding native vegetation are expected to occur over time. The Vegetation Survey and Monitoring project is one of the most important steps we can take to ensure the forest is being restored. The study will survey the current vegetation, and monitor them over time to see how thy change in their structure, composition, stability and overall health. Monitoring the effects of our newly installed fence will give the knowledge we need to effectively manage the forest and safeguard its health.

You have the power to help make this project a reality and we hope that you will support our program as generously as you can. Your $50, $100, or $500 gift will get us so much closer to meeting our goal.

You can help perpetuate this mission for years to come by creating a living legacy for Flat Rock Brook.

Through various planned giving tools you can help ensure Flat Rock’s future, and make special larger gifts than possible from annual income, or during your lifetime, with potential significant tax benefits. These include bequests made in a will or trust, donations of appreciated property or securities, or designation of Flat Rock Brook as beneficiary in your qualified retirement plan, life insurance policy, payable-on-death accounts, or employee stock ownership plans. Several of our members have taken advantage of a federal regulation allowing individuals who are 70½ or older to use IRA Required Minimum Distribution funds to make tax-free gifts of up to $100,000 to qualified charitable organizations. Consider making a planned giving gift to Flat Rock Brook.
