Family Programs at Flat Rock Brook
Conservation Club Programs
Perfect for after-school and Home-school needs. Our Conservation Club programs for ages 6-11 are two-hour, hands-on, nature experiences using STEAM approaches to science and ecology. Programs are led by one of our highly trained Naturalist and will take place both inside the Exhibit Hall and outside on our trails. Programs run from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm unless otherwise noted in description. Programs are $20.00 each or 5 for $80.00. Use the “One-Program”, “Three-Program” or Five-Program” buttons below. You will be asked to list specific dates prior to final check out. February
2/15/24 Deciduous Detectives Ages 7-11 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Put on your detective hat, grab your magnifying glass and help our naturalist deduce the health of our forest in this hands-on hike program. Learn what a dendrocrinologist does, what are the signs of forest health, and what trees can teach us about weather.
2/19/24 Hop, Slither, and Crawl Ages 6-9 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
No matter if you hop, slither, crawl, or drive come to Flat Rock Brook to investigate how some of natures smallest creatures travel. This program will have live animals, games, and crafts.

3/11/24 Nocturnal Animals Ages 7-11 3:00pm to 5:00 pm
Flat Rock Brook is brimming with animals both day and night. Find out about nocturnal life at Flat Rock and what adaptations help animals survive when the lights go out!

4/8/24 Space Invaders Ages 6-9 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Exotic plants and animals can be interesting and exciting, but when do these organisms go from special to Space Invaders? Explore the world of Flat Rock Brook Nature Preserve and see first-hand how exotic becomes invasive and the damage these plants and animals can do to an ecosystem. Find out what simple things you can do to prevent Space Invaders from taking over!
4/9/24 Web-footed Friends Ages 6-9 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Wetlands, ponds and streams are interesting and beautiful places. Hike Flat Rock Brook nature trails to see what adaptations help organisms survive in these eco-systems.
4/10/24 Monarch Migration Ages 6-9 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Monarch butterflies are amazing creatures that migrate over generations, traveling from Mexico up to North America/Canada and back. this multi-generational trip
4/11/24 Perfect Pets Ages 6-9 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Flat Rock Brook Trails are teeming with wildlife but, what makes wild animals and domesticated animals different? Find out how selective breeding created dogs from Wolves, and why you should know where pet birds are from. This two hour program will include a hike on FRB trails to look for wild animals as well as activities and crafts relating to pets and their wild cousins.
4/12/24 Fun with Watercolor 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Nature is inspiring with the amazing colors, shapes, and textures all around. immerse yourself in all nature has to offer and be inspired to create beautiful watercolor artwork using brushes, spray bottles, sponges and other tools for one-of-a-kind art pieces.

Nature Art 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm Ages 6 and over
The Weeks of: July 8, July 22, August 5, and August 19
These programs run from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Each program will have different arts and crafts projects so if you come one day or several weeks you will never get bored. Projects will use found nature objects, paint, water-color, clay, origami, coloring, and more. Come to one program or stay for the entire week. Dino-Games 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm Ages 6 and over
The Week of: August 12
These programs run from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Each program will have a mix of Dino themed table games, scavenger hunts, group games, activities, crafts and more. Forest Fables Preschool Programs
Forest Fables Programs are one-hour child-caregiver programs which take place in our spacious Exhibit Hall and out on the trails. Each weekly program runs from 10:30 to 11:30 on Tuesdays. Break At The Brook Programs
Break At The Brook programs are prefect way to spend school breaks, having fun in the Flat Rock Brook Forest! These mini-camp experiences are a fun, hands-on program filled with science, nature, crafts, and games for students aged 5-12. See below for our dates and topics.

February 19, 2024 Fabulous Forests Ages 7-11 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Flat Rock Brook Nature Center is a fabulous 150-acre urban forest preserve. Hike the trails with one of our knowledgeable naturalists and learn how we keep this beautiful area thriving. Spend the day with hikes, crafts, games, and other activities. This program pairs well with our Conservation Club “Hop, Slither, and Crawl” program.

April 1, 2024 through April 5, 2024 OR April 8, 2024 through April 12, 2024 - 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Spend spring break at the Brook! Come several days or stay the whole week. We are celebrating spring by creating a fun mini-camp experience. Campers will hike, craft, play games, and other nature themed activities. The same curriculum is used each week:
